Day 10 - Mask mandate RESCINDED; we do NOT need to mask indoors

Grading papers today…what a waste of time…

3/13/22. Sunday

8:00- L. leaves for the Art Studio

10:30-10:45 – I’m up so I go downstairs to greet the animal. She’s awake and running around so we go outside. I see that she pooped in two places on the patio (sigh). Return inside and coffee for me, cheese for her. I go upstairs and start a load of laundry.

10:45-11:45 – Shower. I have time to wash my hair today and it feels sooo good. I sit in the shower, drink my coffee, and ice my eyes. I listen to Happier. Lotion. Blow dry my hair. No contacts today. I wear standard yoga pants and a sweatshirt.

11:45-12:00 – I line-dry my clothes and pick  an outfit for tomorrow.

12:00-2:00 – I start grading Question No. 3 of the Socratic Seminar assignments.

2:00-2:45 – I take the dog for a walk and listen to Case File.

2:45-5:00 – Grade papers.

5:00-6:30 – L. and I scheduled an appointment at this time to cover some issues involving my Audio lectures. There are five lectures that I’m unable to email to myself but L. reformats the lectures and sends them to me. I also ask L. to update three slides.

This particular meeting is free because I’m a client and entitled to reformatting, free of charge. HOWEVER, L. recently finished transcribing three of my Audio lectures because I need to re-record them with more current political information (they’re two years old and already outdated) and I don’t want to reinvent the wheel  and create the lecture from scratch – they just need to be tweeked.  It took L. 10 hours to transcribe what turned out to be around 80 pages of dialogue, but since this job didn’t involve any artistic ability, L. lowered her hourly rate from $30 to  $20 an hour.  I’m on the hook for $210.

-I want L. to research and input the new, current political information into the old lecture because, quite frankly, I don’t want to do it.  I contract with her for this service, then I go through the transcribed lectures and highlight all the areas that need to be researched and updated. L. charges me a reduced-rate for this task as well, although $20 an hour is still steep.

6:30-9:00 – Grade papers

9:00-11:00 – I pack my lunch bag and ready my coffee for tomorrow. Then I bake tuna steaks and coat them with the basil cream I purchased at Ralphs from a new recipe that I’m trying. Kitchen duty and I listen to Southern Fried Crime.  I have a few bites of the tuna steak and call it dinner.

-I check my lecture notes and make sure everything is ready for my classes tomorrow.

11:00-2:00 – Grade papers.

-L. surfaces. Apparently, these past few hours, L. has been pouring over her pay stubs and three hole punching them for her “Adult Binder.” L. informs me that she just discovered that over the past two years, whenever she asked Management for a day off from the Art Studio, her pay was docked instead of L. receiving a paid vacation day.

I counter that perhaps L. was not entitled to vacation time and ask her to check her contract (her contract is renewed every year and I wouldn’t  be surprised if these assholes omitted a vacation time clause from the paperwork). At my advice, L. pulls her contracts and to her disgust notes that she was never entitled to vacation pay, although ALL of her coworkers are – it wasn’t written in L.’s contract.

Additionally, L.’s friend and co-worker told L. that she overheard Management tell L.’s supervisor, La, that L. is not allowed to take any time off for the rest of the year.  L. works weekends at the studio. Are they really expecting a 20-year-old  NOT to ask for a weekend off for the rest of 2022? That’s 9 months!  This is ridiculous.

2:00-2:25 – I do a 15-minute Insanity-Ab workout.

2:00-3:30 – I scan and upload the Socratic Seminar essays that I finished grading, then update the Canvas shells for my two classes tomorrow. I check both Midterms to make sure the content is current while I’m scanning the assignments. I have The Organized Money playing in the background.

3:30-4:30 – I grade Question No. 2 for ONE of my students. He is the absolute worst writer of the semester and I couldn’t go on after reading his response to Question No. 1. None of the sentences make sense…it’s as if he dumped a bunch of words on the paper then moved them around with his hands into sentences that do not make ANY sense. I have two of his essays left to grade, but I’m only able to make it through this one tonight.

4:30-5:15 – Nighttime routine. Bed.
