Day 13 - LA County Dept. of Health urges masking indoors
L.’s famous drink…her jalapeno-pineapple margarita…
7/11/21. Sunday
8:00- L. leaves for work. The garage door wakes me up, but I fall back asleep.
9:00 – 9:30 – I lie in bed and listen to Organize 365.
9:30 – 10:00 - I get up, finally, and go downstairs to say good morning to the animal. I’m sure L. already took her out, but the dog is taking a nap, stretched out on the sofa. I see that she pooped near the front door. Great. We maintain the routine – I rub her tummy three times, then she grabs her tennis ball and we go outside. Eventually, she goes potty and we return inside: cheese for her, coffee for me. I slice an apple and add some honey almond butter, then take everything upstairs.
10:00-11:00 – I read Widowish.
11:00-2:00 – Blog posts and light packing for the Vegas trip. Where has the time gone? The day is shot.
2:00-3:00 – I water my plants.
3:00-5:00 – I read a Money Diary and have some walnuts and cheese. Then, shower. Lotion. Full hair and make-up. I put on a vintage 70s sleeveless top and black leggings.
B. is having a party at his house tonight and L. was asked to make her famous jalapeno and pineapple margaritas for the party. We’re supposed to be at B.’s house at 6:00 and she’s still not home. L. was going to pick up the supplies for her drink after she got off work, but she only has a small window of time (her shift ends at 4:00) and this drink takes some prep work – L. has to break down the pineapples and chop jalapenos.
I suppose I could have bought the supplies while she was at work, but A) she didn’t ask me to; and B) L. wants to buy the produce at Trader Joes. Once the pandemic hit, I never returned to Trader Joes. I hate that place. For several months during the pandemic, the store was too chaotic and the line to get into the store stretched as far as Best Buy. Pass.
It’s a miracle, but I’m on time and ready to go. I read Widowish while I wait for L. to arrive.
5:15 – 5:45 - L. arrives with all the supplies and immediately starts food prep while we talk about her day. Once food prep is complete, L. changes her clothes and we leave.
6:00-9:30 – Dinner at B.’s. M&L are here and so is B.’s daughter, J., and her husband, R. B.’s grandkids – ages 16 and 19 - are also here. B. opens a bottle of Cava champagne and M. has made a wonderful salmon with a maple glaze and mashed potatoes. Saying grace is important to M&L so I lead the prayer. When I finish, M says, “That was really nice.” (insert smile emoji here). The food is delish! We’re all vaccinated and I don’t feel nearly as uneasy as I did yesterday at the Phelan gathering. It’s a great time with good conversation.
J&R and B.’s grandkids leave – L. and I hit the road a few minutes later.
9:30-10:00 – L. drives
10:00 – 11:30 – Home, and for whatever reason, I’m exhausted. Take the dog out and lock up. Then, nighttime routine and bed. Very early for me.
