Day 15 - Los Angeles lifts its vaccine mandate. A vax card is no longer required.

Striders met at Valencia Heritage Park tonight…

Arial view of the path…

The state of CA is NO LONGER recommending a 5-day quarantine for people exposed to Covid-19 as long as they’re asymptomatic. Yet another “work-around” (get it?) for the benefit of employers.

An exposure is defined as “someone who has spent 15 minutes or longer within close physical proximity of someone who has Covid”, when actual transmission takes ONE second (my opinion). In many instances, the infected person will have either no symptoms or allergy-like symptoms for the first two to three days after infection. Additionally, the infectee will repeatedly test negative on a Rapid Antigen Test after the first two to three days of exposure. If you won’t definitively know you have Covid until day THREE of your exposure, shouldn’t you just quarantine for the standard 5-days to be sure?

Here’s a Covid word problem for you:

Covid Word Problem: After a 6-hour day at school, employee John Doe’s child brings her homework and Omicron back to the house, where she proceeds to infect the family over dinner. John Doe was exposed to his little girl until bed time, which means he just sustained a huge, 5-hour “viral load.” He wakes up the next morning and notes that his allergies “are acting up.” How many days (x) should John Doe quarantine? How many employees (y) will be infected if John Doe returns to work?  How many employees will contract Long Covid? (z)  Use this space for your computations BEFORE you look at the answer.

Answer: (x) days=0

                (y) employees = Everyone

                (z) Long Covid = Unknown

Answer: John Doe has “allergies” which means he is asymptomatic and must report to work in accordance with his work shift. If John were to take a Rapid Antigen Test, the results would be negative because that particular test won’t pick up Covid for up to THREE days after infection, which means the tests are useless and John is still asymptomatic. Under California’s sketchy new quarantining policy, which makes no sense from a public health perspective, John Doe is entitled to ZERO days off.

How many employees will be infected upon John Doe’s return to work? Everyone.

How many employees will contract Long Covid? Unknown

4/14/22. Thursday

7:30-8:45-Still Spring Break at my high school so I get to sleep in today, thank God. This is my first day off in what feels like forever (I was off on Tuesday, too, though). I have no agenda today so I bullet journal during this time. I can’t believe I’m not up at the crack of dawn.

8:45-9:15 - I start a load of laundry, then change into yoga pants and a sweatshirt. I wash my face, brush my teeth, and put in my contacts. Light make-up. I listen to The Daily.

9:15-10:45-Its time to say good morning to the animal. She’s been up for awhile, waiting for me, so we go outside ASAP and I wait for her to do her business. Return inside and cheese for her. I make a cup of coffee, pull out my bread maker, and add the mix. I unload the dishwasher and clean the kitchen. Then, I clean out the refrigerator and my lunch bag. I make a batch of scrambled eggs while boiling eggs simultaneously, then chop an apple for future snacks. I pick up dog poop and water a few of my plants. I listen to Be Wealthy and Smart and Marketplace Morning.

10:45-11:00-I hang up my damp clothes; and

11:00-12:00-take the dog for a walk.

12:00-12:15- The bread is done so I pull it out of the bread maker and let it cool.

12:15-12:45-I eat a donut and read Women in the Picture.

1:00-4:00 - After the donut, I’m incapacitated the rest of the day - I’m not sure why but think it may be a carb/sugar overload. I’m beyond fatigue and take to my bed for the next three hours (what a waste of my day!), listening to Organize 365 and The Political Gabfest. I ask L. if she’ll buy me a coffee, then fall asleep. When I wake up around 3:30, the coffee is bedside on my nightstand. Awww, thanks L!

4:00-4:30-I drink my coffee and have some cheese and crackers and a few apple slices.

5:00-6:15-Striders is meeting at 6:30 today so I jump in the shower and ice my eyes. Lotion. Light make-up. I put my hair in a slicked-back ponytail. and change into LuLu Lemon leggings, a T-shirt, and a zip-up, sleeveless jacket (layers).

6:25-6:30-I’m running a tad late today as I drive to my walking group.

6:30-7:45- I walk with “Candy”, the coordinator for Striders, tonight. If you read this blog consistently, you’ll know that I’ve written extensively about her in previous posts. In addition to her other activities, Candy also sews costumes for her church performances. In fact, her church is putting on a play, called The Amish Project, at The Main, one of our local theaters, and she sewed the costumes for several of the actors. Tonight, on our walk, we discuss local theatre, a theatre troop called The Rep, that abruptly went out of business, another local theatre house called the Canyon Theatre Guild, and various performances we’ve seen at College of the Canyons.

-I’m still not feeling well so I eat apple slices, grapes, and walnuts as I’m walking.

7:45-8:00-The walk is over and I drive home.

8:00-9:30-B. arrives with laundry detergent that I asked him to pick up for me from Costco. He hangs out for awhile and we talk politics. B. Leaves.

9:30-10:30-Kitchen duty. I make sure my lunch bag is fully packed, ready my coffee, and pull out my DMV Transfer of Title information so it’s ready for tomorrow.

10:30-11:00-I go upstairs prepared to do an Insanity workout but I lie down instead. What’s wrong with me? Long Covid? Is it getting worse?

11:00-11:45-I take a short nap.

11:45-12:00-Up and I take out my contacts, wash my face, and change into work-out clothes.

12:00-12:30-I do an Insanity-Sweat workout but have to stop after 17 minutes. Too exhausted. This does not bode well.

12:30-1:15-I change into pajamas and finish getting ready for bed, then set my my alarm for 6:30.
