Day 17 - California Reopening Plan - Phase 3

The Hunt…

The Hunt…

6:30 - I take the dog out and give her cheese. Then, I go back to bed.

10:00 - 12:00 - L. knocks on my door to remind me that she is going to Descanso Gardens with A. and K. I get up at 10:30 and read Smile For The Camera and drink my water.

12:00 - 2:00 - I do the dishes and clean the kitchen. I listen to Vox Worldly, Vox The Weeds, and Today Explained. I mix Greek yogurt, apples, walnuts, and honey for breakfast.

I continue with Smile for The Camera. It’s quite good and details a 16-year-old’s journey from Maryland to New York, because she needs to leave her abusive father and hopes to become a model at the Barbizon agency. This a memoir and takes place around 1978, but it’s incredibly detailed for a book that was published a few years ago by someone in her 50s concerning events that occurred over 30 years ago. She must have kept a journal during that time. The author meets a female friend at Barbizon as soon as she arrives in New York, and their time in the city is so horrible it’s a wonder they weren’t raped or murdered (although the author consents to sex with a 40-year-old photographer, she’s only 17 at the time, so this could be construed as rape.)

2:00-3:00 - I water my plants and pick up dog poop.

3:00-3:30 - I continue with Smile For The Camera.

3:30 - 4:00 - my champagne delivery arrives. This time, instead of shouting from the truck “What’s your name?” and writing it down when I scream it from the front porch, a young kid approaches, walks all the way to the front door, where I’m standing, and asks me to sign. He’s not masked and he does not social distance - he is right next to me. I’m very disturbed as I’m also not masked, but only because I thought I was going to shout my name to the truck driver like I’ve done the last two times. He hands me a key pad of sorts and ask me to sign my name, with my finger, on the key pad. I’m sure a hundred people have already touched the same surface today. Again, he is right next to me. I don’t stop thinking about this for the next two days. I lug the box inside and immediately wash my hands. Then, I take a Clorox wipe and scrub the door knob and handle, both sides.

Although I’ve done virtually nothing today, I’m exhausted and just want to lie down, but I can’t because I’m expected at B.’s house at 6:00.

4:00-5:45 - I shower, put on a Maxi dress and make-up, then leave for B.’s house.

6:00 - 8:00 - B. purchased The Hunt and pizza/pasta, so we settle in.

The Hunt is very good, but I don’t know what to make of it. A group of far left, liberal Democrats drug and capture select Republicans, primarily from southern states, who have been trolling them on social media. The Republicans are dumped in some forest that appears to be Canada, but might be in Budapest or Virginia??? and the liberal Democrats proceed to actually ‘hunt’ the Republicans, as if they’re prey. It’s no spoiler to say that everyone is killed in the first 20 minutes except a lone Republican female, from Mississippi, who gets the job done. The dialogue is filled with catch phrases. For example, as one of the liberal predators blows the head off a Republican, he screams, “Climate change is real!”

With 40 minutes left in the movie, Hillary Swank makes a cameo performance, as the biggest liberal of all, who has been training for 8 months for some hand-to-hand combat with the lone survivor. The fight scene is intense and takes place in the kitchen of Swank’s “manor” - they say that word a lot throughout the movie - using various kitchen utensils. Although a great fight scene, it is completely ripped off from the fight scene between Vanessa Williams and Uma Thurman in Kill Bill. Can directors patent movie content? Not sure. If yes, this is complete copyright infringement…

There is a strange conversation about the book Animal Farm at the end, as ONE of them lay dying [I won’t say which female].

8:00-9:00 - B. and I sit outside on B’s patio, then I leave after about an hour.

9:30 - 12:00 - L. and I watch THREE episodes of Love After Lockup and scream at the TV.
