Day 2 - Mask mandate in California is rescinded

Sam’s Anchor Cafe…our first dinner in Tiburon

Sam’s Anchor Cafe…our first dinner in Tiburon

6/16/21. Wednesday

5:30- 6:30 - My alarm goes off and I’m up. It’s vitally important that I’m able to give my plants a deep drink of water before I leave. Although L. will be home, the level of care she is able to provide is, shall I say, somewhat questionable. My main goal is that everything survives while I’m gone - my plants are like my pets, although L. says they are more like my “children.” I’m most concerned about the new zucchini seedlings I transplanted - I hope they make it.

Downstairs and I say good morning to the dog. She. is. out of it. Too early for her and she doesn’t want to get up. I rub her tummy more than three times and she finally gets up, but foregoes her toy. I wait for her to go potty and we return inside: cheese for her, coffee for me. I lock her in the house so I can water my plants - she purposefully gets in the way when I’m watering and turns into a wet mess - and bring my coffee outside. I take my time and saturate my plants.

6:30-7:30 - Shower. Wash hair. Lotion. Black jumper. Light make-up. I pack all of the toiletries I just used and my hair drier, then zip the suitcase. Packing is officially complete.

7:30-8:00 - I bring my suitcase and my bag of toiletries downstairs and start putting everything in the garage for easy access when B. arrives. Because we’re essentially staying at an Air BnB, I packed ALOT of items. Usually, I travel much much lighter. I add a bag of dried goods and apples, along with my “alcohol” bag to the mix [J. and A. suggested we bring our own alcohol, toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, regular soap, butter, etc.]. My backpack and lunch bag will stay up front with me. My last task is to pack the frozen lasagna in the cooler, along with frozen inserts.

8:00 - 8:30 - B. arrives. We load everything and leave.

8:30-11:30 - Driving

11:30 - 12:30 - We stop at Harris Ranch for lunch. Even though the mask mandate was lifted, customers and waitstaff are still masking, which I appreciate. I’m also masking. The restaurant is full because seating restrictions were lifted, so I’m a little apprehensive about sitting inside. That said, there is no way I’m going to sit outside as it is over 100 degrees today.

I order the calamari and a glass of Prosecco - both are excellent. B. orders…something?

12:30-3:30 - Arrive in Tiburon and unload the vehicle. The casita is actually on the beach.

6:30-9:30 - J. and A. pick Sam’s Anchor Cafe for dinner. We leave at 6:30 - J. and A. are driving - and stop by Safeway so they can pick up a few items. Everyone is masked inside the store, including the checkers.

Arrive at Sams and it’s located on the pier. We sit inside - it’s very cold, but I have a wrap and it’s not bad, indoors. Sam’s continues to practice social distancing as there are only a few indoor tables - most of the diners are sitting outside on the pier. People are masking when they walk through the restaurant - of course, when they sit down, they take their masks off. Waitstaff is also masking. I have the baja fish tacos and a glass of Prosecco - both are wonderful.

Return home.

9:30-10:30 - Nighttime routine. Bed.
