Day 27 - California Reopening Plan - Phase 3

On the road for 8 hours…

On the road for 8 hours…

Sunday. 6/21/20

8:00 - 9:30 - We plan to leave at 8:00, but I want to have one last meal at the Mii Amo Spa, so we pack up our car then walk over to the Mii Amo Cafe, where I have coffee and L. and I split the French toast, which is “amazing.” I’m glad to have a last meal here.

Spoiler Alert: I thought breakfast was included, but our stay officially ended yesterday and the charge for this meal is reflected later on my credit card statement, along with an extra $684 charge due to the fact that our spa treatments went over our allotted credit - of course, I was never notified of this and it is not on the invoice that was slipped under my door Saturday night. I end up disputing this with the Concierge, several days later…and ultimately losing the argument. Then, five days after that, on 6/29/20 and unbeknownst to me, Mii Amo will ultimately reverse the charge and credit $684 to my account.

L. and I briefly discuss self-quarantining for 14 days as we just came from a hot spot where few Arizonians wear masks. This is a bit of a quandary as we both have to work on Monday and what if we’re both fine? I don’t want to miss 2 weeks of work and neither does L. But she can at least quarantine from her boyfriend and make sure he’s safe - when she poses this idea to R., he says no.

9:30 - 10:00 - L. wants to stop at a special organic cafe that we’ve frequented in the past, so we stop there and I get another coffee and she gets a novelty drink. I fill up and we are finally on our way. L. goes straight to sleep.

10:00 - 2:30 - I listen to Skimm This; Start Here; Pandemic Check-In; Global News Podcast; NPR Politics; BBC World Service; Market Place; PBS Newshour Segments; and Today Explained. I get gas at Quartzsite, AZ.

3:00-6:00 - Continue driving and L. goes back to sleep. I listen to Vox Worldly; New York Politics; and Air Talk.

6:00 - Home and L. and I bring everything in, immediately unpack, and start laundry, as is our custom. By 6:45, we’re done. I asked L., previously, to follow me to Enterprise when we got home, and she was not happy about it as she has plans with R….but what am I supposed to do? I have to drop the car off. Enterprise closes early on Sundays, so all I have to do is put the key in the drop box. I fill up the SUV, meet L. at the house, and follow her to Enterprise. It takes 20 minutes and L. returns home in time for her 7:30 date with R.

7:30 - 9:00 - I take the trash out, load the dishwasher, and continue with another load of laundry. My ex was in town and he took care of the dog for us, thank god. I go through my mail, then go online to my state job email, where I discover that my subject interview scheduled for tomorrow morning, at 10:00, was canceled by his attorney. This means I don’t have to go in tomorrow.

I notify our MC and my supervisor, then field emails, complete correspondence, and basically just catch up as I was gone two business days. I water a few of my plants, but most of them look pretty good. Unfortunately, the back patio is slightly flooded from the sprinklers. I text my ex to see if he made any adjustments while he was here, but he says no. When I check the sprinkler timer, it’s blinking which means the power must have briefly gone out. Spoiler Alert - I will spend the next 5 days trying to reprogram the timer and adjust the sprinklers appropriately.

9:00 - 10:00 - I hang my laundry and get ready for bed. I’m not sure when L. gets home.
