Day 29 - California Covid spike - mandatory masking

Happy hour at BJs…

Happy hour at BJs…

Tuesday. 6/23/20.

8:30 - 9:45 - the dog is still asleep and I actually have to wake her up. I take her outside and give her cheese. She pooped by the front door. I really miss the Mii Amo Spa… Dressed and coffee, while I wait for L.

10:00 - 11:30 - L. emerges and we drive to the Clinic for the dog’s rabies shots. There are 7 people in line, on the sidewalk, outside the vet’s office, and everyone is standing on the obligatory 6 feet strips of tape. Thankfully, everyone is masked, even though we’re outside. Good.

By 10:30, the dog and I are in. The clinic will not let L. accompany me inside, which was the entire reason I asked her to come. I look behind me and the line has increased by 30 people, snaking around the shopping plaza into another parking lot. OMG. I put the dog on the counter and explain that I need a rabies certificate and…they give me one! I continue standing at the counter, waiting for the shot, until staff says, “You can go now.” I said, “Don’t I have to pay?” They inform me that the dog got her rabies shot last year and it’s good for three years - she doesn’t need a booster. Rarely do things go this well for me - now I can renew her license and I didn’t have to pay for a service. This is great!

11:30 - 2:30 - Home and L. says that since R.’s lay-off, he has not been exposed to gross Starbucks customers in the past 10 days - can he come inside the house now? What can I say? He’s no longer around the disgusting public and he’s been quarantining (kind of). Also, that means B. can come in the house. I agree, but insist that we get the house ready for R.’s first time inside. That means that L. has to clean the downstairs bathroom, vacuum the wood floor, AND use the Swiffer. She doesn’t want to, but she concedes.

I go outside and work on my backyard, then water ALL of my plants. This takes some time as I’ve been gone several days. Also, the sprinklers are coming on sporadically and the timer needs to be re-programmed. I try to fix the timer - lets see what happens.

I hang the dream catcher and welcome beads from Mii Amo Spa in my office so I will never forget our “journey.”

2:30 - 3:30 - I lay out in my new chaise lounge chair in an attempt to get some sun. My backyard is largely a “shade garden”, so I grab patches of sun where I can, but am not really successful. I read Panic and Joy. In the interim, I defrost a chicken pot pie pan that is large enough to feed an army, accidentally purchased by L. from Marstons.

3:30 - 7:30 - I shower and get ready, then B. arrives at 5:00 to pick me up for our happy hour date at BJs. We went there a couple weeks ago and the bartender remembers us. I give B. a Fathers Day card that I purchased a week ago, since I knew I’d be in Sedona over Father’s Day. He says he likes it.

I have one glass of Prosecco and mozzarella sticks while B. has two of something and a large portion of…something. The night is ok, but B. mistakenly calls me by his ex-wife’s name, then asks me to pay my half of the meal ($8.00) as we are driving home. Since B. invited me to happy hour - it was NOT MY suggestion - and I was very clear, UP FRONT, when I told him I would NOT be able to pay for my appetizer and drink if we go to happy hour - I refuse. B. says he’s just kidding, but none of this is funny as this is his pattern in that he has routinely berated me, for 6 years, for not making enough money…so, yeah, that happened.

8:00 - 10:30 - When we return, R. and L. are downstairs, watching Parasite. B. and I watch two episodes of Love After Lockup, Season 1, and B. starts falling asleep. I suggest we plan B.’s belated Father’s Day excursion for tomorrow - I proposed, several days ago, lunch at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel, then onto MODS [Museum of Design Space] for the infinity mirrors exhibition. B. says he has plans Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sun, and wants to go next Monday instead, but I hold out for tomorrow (Wednesday). He calls the Polo Lounge and makes the reservation for 12:00 and I’m able to get tickets to MODS at 3:00. Spoiler Alert: There is a snafu in that the tickets are never emailed to my account and the museum actually opens at 4:00. Eventually, we get in. B. says he’ll pick me up at 10:30 tomorrow.

10:30 - L. has to work early tomorrow so I get ready for bed.
