Day 35 - Los Angeles lifts its vaccine mandate. A vax card is no longer needed.

Happy Hour at BJs tonight…

5/4/22. Wednesday

8:00-9:00 - Thank God it’s my day off. I’m up so I go downstairs to greet the animal and we go outside. Unfortunately, she pooped in several places on the patio. I pick up the dog poop and sweep the patio while I wait for her to go potty, then we return inside. Cheese for her; coffee for me. I go upstairs.

9:00-10:30-I sit in the shower, drink my coffee, and ice my eyes while listening to The Daily. Lotion. Light make-up. I put on jeans, a blouse, and my Airwalk shoes.

10:45-3:30-B. arrives with coffee and donuts and we talk politics outside on my patio table. I water a few of my plants with the watering can in between.

3:30-4:15-After coffee and donuts, B. snips the excess length of metal from the band holding the Mason jar on my pallet project and sands the edges; then

4:15-6:00-B. and I leave for BJ’s Happy Hour. Although there are plenty of seats at the bar, this drunk asshole orders a drink at the counter, and continues to STAND RIGHT NEXT TO ME for the next two hours. He refuses to grab a seat at one of the empty bar tables. This jerk’s on top of me, hovering over my shoulder, as he talks/shouts at two women about some type of Investment that doesn’t make sense - probably crypto-currency. Believe me, we can hear you…in fact, the entire bar can hear you. He’s extremely loud and nobody is interested in what he has to say, but he refuses to leave his “standing” spot at the bar. Did I mention that nobody in this restaurant is masked, except the bartender, in spite of the fact that BA2.12.1 is making it’s way through Los Angeles county? In fact, here is today’s headline from the LA County Department of Public Health’s daily release: COVID Cases and Outbreaks Increasing at K-12 Schools; Public Health Working with Education Partners to Support Safety Measures - 2,484 New Positive Cases and 5 New Deaths Due to COVID-19 in Los Angeles County. That’s 2,484 new cases just today.

The two disinterested women leave, so “drunk guy” makes a phone call and talks loudly to the person while still standing at the counter. The call is filled with expletives and sexual references that all of us can hear.

I really just want to leave. Although it’s Happy Hour, my two glasses of champagne aren’t covered and are $10 a piece. Thankfully, my mozzarella sticks offset it, coming in at a mere $6.00. B gets a regular hamburger and orders three Happy Hour drinks, but the bill is STILL $64, BEFORE tip, which is ridiculous, although B. thinks it’s a good deal. This is true inflation!

6:15-8:00-We go back to my house for cocktail hour, but B. Is all in for drinks. I’m exhausted, again [Long Covid?], and B. offers to leave BUT things are going okay so I suggest we watch the rest of Bad Vegan. We back it up to Episode 3 and start over.

8:00-8:30-We talk about a possible hike on Friday and B. leaves.

9:00-11:00-Again, I’m incredibly fatigued. Long Covid? I do my partial nighttime routine, consisting of taking out my contacts, taking off my eye make-up, putting on my pajamas, and lie down for a short nap.

11:00-12:00-Up and I check email at College No. 2 and respond to a few students. Then, I create new lesson plans for 5/12/22 because I want to disseminate them to my highschoolers a week in advance. I post course content for my online class and make sure everything is ready for tomorrow.

12:00-1:00-Kitchen duty. I pack my lunch bag and add the mozzarella sticks to the salad that’s already in the bag, along with a sliced apple and a Lara bar.

1:00-1:30-Finish my nighttime routine. Bed.
