Day 48-Governor Newsom reinstates the mask mandate in California
2/1/22. Tuesday
6:00 – 6:30-My alarm sounds. I get out of bed and walk across the room to turn it off, then lie down again so I can transition into waking up. I listen to Organize 365.
6:30-7:00 – The dog is out of it so I tiptoe past her, heat up my coffee, and grab a bag of ice. As I’m about to go upstairs, the dog jumps off the couch and onto my legs, ready to go outside. I know she also wants her treat so we head to the backyard and I stand around, waiting for her to go potty. Turkey for her and I go upstairs. Shower. I sit in the shower, drink my coffee, and ice my eyes. Lotion. Light make-up and I curl my hair. I put on a sports bra, tank top, UnderArmor leggings, a large hoodie sweatshirt, and a sleeveless jacket.
8:00-8:30 – I drive to Wildwood Canyon Open Space and meet my hiking group. I have a few bites of overnight oats enroute.
8:45-10:30 – Renee is the coordinator and I really like her. A young mother – Kellie – joins the group with her 4-month-old baby!! strapped to her chest. Can you imagine? It gets better…the baby is scheduled to have some sort of surgery in a couple of days to help her breathe better. This is a strenuous hike through a canyon with numerous inclines and portions of the trail have cliff-side drop-offs. A baby? The canyon is very beautiful and bucolic views all the way around. It’s hard to describe the experience of hiking and being outdoors in the early morning hours. I love it.
10:30-11:30 – I drive to Starbucks and buy the Impossible egg sandwich using a gift card that one of my colleagues gave me for grading papers. I sit in the parking lot and update my bullet journal.
11:30-12:30 – I go across town to Walmart Pickup for three items that I ordered online, but after waiting for almost an hour, none of the employees can find ANY confirmation that an order was ever placed. I have other errands to run, but now I’m too exhausted. Long Covid? In the past, I would push myself to complete whatever tasks I had lined up for the day, even if I was feeling fatigued. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to do that anymore. Is this a legitimate feeling? Or am I simply telling myself I have Long Covid so I don’t have to push myself so hard? Have I always been this tired? I leave Walmart and go home. All I want to do is lie down.
12:30-1:00 – Driving
-L. leaves for Otis.
1:00-1:45 – I take the dog for a walk.
1:45-3:00 – I check my previous Walmart order and note that everything is still in the cart! The order was never placed! I recall that the website kept crashing the other day…I order the items now.
-Life Admin.
-I make sure my and L.’s Beach Cycle paperwork is in order for Beach Cycle on Thursday.
-I reserve two tickets for Descanso Garden’s free day (2/15/22)
-I pay my car insurance and L.’s car insurance. Mine is $1400; hers is $2400, but her Dad pays half. Can I just say I am sick of paying L.’s car insurance, even though I’m splitting it with my ex-husband? I still have to come up with $1200 even though he pays half. I asked L. if she was going to contribute to her insurance payment this year and she said no.
-I check email at College No. 1
-I submit my Preference Sheet for the Fall 2022 schedule at College No. 1
-I listen to Audio Lecture – Chapter 5 for my Core Class on double speed.
-I finish listening to lecture. L. will have to cut several minutes off the backend. I also need to record two PSAs.
3:00-4:00 – I read Loved and Wanted.
4:00-5:00 – I heat up another dinner I froze several months ago. I don’t mark the containers so I don’t know what to expect until it’s completely thawed. It’s a pasta, sausage, and corn dish that I think L. prepared. It tastes great and I continue reading Loved and Wanted while I eat.
5:00-5:45 – I take a nap
5:45-6:00- I have a few errands to run so I leave. I listen to True Crime Garage and eat my orange-infused Lindt chocolate bar.
6:00-6:15 – I drop off my dry cleaning
6:15-6:30 – I pick up my library books and pay an overdue fine of $7.20
6:30-7:30 – I stop by Home Depot and look a bulb for the second garden light I disassembled last night. Most of the customers continue to mask. I listen to Someone Knows Something – The Next Call
7:30-7:45 – Drive home.
7:45-8:30 – I replace the bulb in the remaining garden light then readjust the time on my sprinklers. I do the dishes and prepare my coffee for tomorrow.
8:30-11:00 – Blog posts.
11:00-11:30 – L. is home and we talk about her day. There was a guest speaker in one of her classes today via Zoom named Wendy. She’s a deaf furniture maker and her pieces are incredible! In another of L.’s classes, she learned how to make paper out of magazine scraps. It’s some kind of process that turns the scraps into pulp, and then L. flattens it??? I don’t know all of the steps. I told L. that going to Otis is like attending an arts-and-crafts summer camp every day! All of this is so fun and L. is making such interesting projects.
11:30-12:30 – More blog posts.
12:30-1:15 – I fall asleep briefly.
1:15-2:00 – I listen to a podcast about Covid.
2:00-2:45 – I do a 30-minute Insanity Max – Friday Night workout.
2:45-3:00 – I take out my contacts.
3:00-4:00 – I upload my blog posts.
4:00-4:30 – I take the dog out and lock up, then finish the rest of my nighttime routine. Bed.
