Day 7 - LA County moves into yellow tier

Fire Fly restaurant for Mother’s Day…

Fire Fly restaurant for Mother’s Day…

5/9/21. Sunday.

8:00 -8:45 – I set my alarm for 8:00 so I’m up, but I need transition time.  I stay in bed for another 45 minutes, listening to Organize 365.

8:45-9:00 – Downstairs to say good morning to the dog.  This is very early for her and she’s still asleep on the couch. She rolls over on her back so I can rub her tummy three times, then she grabs her toy and we go outside. The dog is very distracted and I’m pretty sure she picked up the rat’s scent, probably from last night. Eventually, she does her business and we return inside: pieces of L.’s rigatoni for her, coffee for me. I go upstairs. Still at 101 pounds.  I really can’t eat anything after 9:00 – even celery.

9:00-11:00 – Drink my coffee while showering. Lotion. Curl hair. Full make-up.  I wear a teal sundress with wedge heels and accessorize with my diamonds (earrings and necklace). I transfer everything from my backpack to one of my more stylish summer purses.

-Not a peep from L., so I check on her.  She overslept and wakes up in a panic.  I’m totally chill because I planned for this contingency.  B. arrives at 11:00, when we planned all along to leave at a “hard” 11:15, because I thought either L. or myself would run late.  Shockingly, it’s L. that’s late, not me.  I pour a glass of champagne because it’s Mother’s Day and I want to get a head start on my Mother’s Day brunch. B. and I hang out in the garage and wait for L., while I sip my champagne. L. is finally ready by 11:15 and believing she is late, but we are actually leaving right on time. I have almond butter, apple slices, and water in my lunch bag for L. because she hasn’t eaten anything and I don’t want her to get sick on the way. She eats the entire apple (all the slices) in the car.

11:15-12:00 – Driving

12:00 – 2:30 - We arrive at FireFly!!! I really, really wanted to come here and B. said we could bring L. – this is such a treat!  The restaurant is so cool – the outside is just an ivy-colored wall…that’s it.  But when you enter the establishment, you’re transported to a beautiful garden.  FireFly has a wonderful outdoor area with huge pexiglass partitions separating the patrons. This is where everyone is eating.  Waitstaff are still masking and wearing plastic face shields – the customers mask until they sit down. This is a special Mother's Day prix fixe that I researched previously. B. and I split a bottle of champagne and L. gets one of her matcha, something-something novelty drinks. I have the shrimp and grits, an excellent chicken polenta, and the fruit puree for desert. The food is unbelievable and I have the tiniest of leftovers to take home, but, hey, it’s a big enough portion for lunch tomorrow.  This is such a great day!  Why can’t every day be Mother’s Day?

3:00-4:30 – We leave

-Driving

4:30-9:00 – B. and I talk politics and then I make him watch Elle because I’m interested to see what he thinks of the movie.  B. doesn’t like rape movies – what normal-hetero-cis-male does? – but he’s a good sport about it and we watch the entire movie.  He liked it and shares his opinion of the film with me.

9:00 – B. leaves.

9:30-10:30 – It’s been a long week and a long day and I’m exhausted. Downstairs to take the dog out and lock up.  Night time routine. Bed.
