Day 9 - Mask mandate is rescinded in California
Meat on Ocean…
6/23/21. Wednesday
8:00 – L. leaves for Art Camp.
8:30 -10:00 – I’m awake, but I lie in bed re-curating my IPAD. These are the four files I’ve created, per L.’s instructions: 1) Film and TV; 2) Books and Websites; 3) Places to Go; and 4) To-Do List. Re-curating my IPAD (and my life) involves going through the master scroll of over a thousand entries, pulling up each item via Google to research if I’m still interested, then logging the item in the correct above category. This is sooo laborious. BTW, I’m at 97.5 pounds.
10:00-10:30 – I take a break and go downstairs to greet the animal. The general rule in this household is that whoever gets up first takes the dog out. I’m usually up first, but L. has been leaving early to teach Art Camp so I assumed she has been taking her out. I rub the dog’s tummy three times, she grabs her toy, and outside we go, where she pees for a straight 15 seconds. Apparently, L. is NOT taking her out in the mornings. Return inside and it’s cheese for the dog; coffee for me.
10:30-1:00 – I report to my office and continuing re-curating my Ipad. I discover a way to re-curate my film notes - if I listen to previous episodes of my favorite movie podcast, I can recreate my film list. I pull up previous episodes and start listening to the film podcast, as I move down the master scroll, reviewing one item at a time – my master list is not in any particular order or category - and then logging that item under one of the previously mentioned categories I recently created. I simultaneously log the movies of interest to me while my film podcast plays as well.
1:00-2:00 – I have a piece of lasagna and read a Money Diary.
2:00-3:30 – Back to re-curating…
3:30-5:00 – Shower. Lotion. Summer dress. Make-up. Hair. I listen to the BBC Newscast.
5:15 – 6:15 – B. arrives and we leave for Meat on Ocean so we can celebrate Fathers Day.
Driving.
6:15 – 8:00 - arrive and we’re early. The hostess says we can sit in the bar. No one is masking – even the bartender – and customers are sitting shoulder to shoulder. I’m very uncomfortable, so B. and I move to the other side of the bar where there are no people. I feel much better even though Covid-19 floats and it doesn’t matter where you sit, BUT, it’s not so much about Covid for me these days as it is about other viruses that also require close contact, like the flu, bronchitis, or just your basic sinus infection. I haven’t been sick for two years and I’d like to keep it that way. Anyway, just when we’re seated on the other side of the bar, still waiting for our drinks, we’re shown to our table.
This restaurant looks out on the ocean across the street and the floor-to-ceiling accordion doors are open so it’s really breezy, which is great. Some of the wait staff mask, some don’t. I wish that was the new rule – anyone working around food should mask – but it’s not fair to wait staff. I order the Seafood Tempura and Clam Chowder and B. gets…something??? a piece of meat with asparagus and mashed potato sides. This place is known for their cuts of meat and B. is a meat-eater so have at it! We have a double-round of drinks – the Prosecco is excellent – and order Crème Brulee for desert. Unfortunately, they serve it cold at this restaurant and it’s not good. Oh well.
8:00-9:00 – Return home. Driving.
9:30-11:00 – Home and we watch Courage Under Fire. B. has not seen a war movie featuring a female protagonist so I suggested this film.
11:30 – B. leaves and I’m wiped. I give him his swim trunks (Father’s Day present) on the way out and tell him to let me know if they fit.
12:00-1:00 – Nighttime routine and bed.
