Day 16 - Biden says the pandemic is over

Checked out of the Ayres Hotel today…back to my shitty life…

Biden says the pandemic is over just as the LA County Dept of Health is reporting the average number of daily Covid cases at LA County Hospitals at 499 and the average number of daily deaths at 11. LA County has cutting-edge technology for identifying new Covid variants BEFORE they occur, though. What is this cutting edge technology, you ask? It’s called “wastewater surveillance”, i.e., sampling shit and piss at FOUR wastewater treatment plants. I thought you might want to know where these wastewater plants are located. Here’s a few “fun” facts - you should note there are approximately 10 million LA County residents:

  1. The Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant, in Playa Del Rey - serves 7.5 million LA County residents

  2. The Joint Water Pollution Control Plant, in Carson - serves the same 7.5 million LA residents

  3. Lancaster Water Reclamation Plant - services Palmdale and Lancaster

  4. Tapia Water Reclamation Facility - serves Calabasas

That’s all we’ve got? Sampling poo and pee?

10/4/23. Tuesday

9:00-9:30- I’m up so I make coffee in the room and finish packing; B. leaves for the free breakfast.

9:30-10:30-Shower. Lotion. Light make-up. Yoga pants and a shirt. B. returns with eggs and bacon - I’m over the crappy free food (breakfast) at this hotel.

Typically, before I leave a location, I like to sit on the balcony or patio for a 1/2 hour or so, just to take in my last few minutes of the place where I stayed, look at the surroundings, reflect on what went well and what didn’t, and contemplate going home [“back to our shitty lives” as I always say]. We didn’t have a balcony this time so I tell B. I’d like to go to the pool briefly. He mocks me and says, “What are you gonna do? Swim laps? We have to check out.” I explain that I didn’t get to go to the pool yesterday, like he did [drama with the software involving that crazy OSD bitch], and it would be nice to sit poolside for a few minutes, maybe read a few pages of my book before we leave. B. then says, “Maybe if you didn’t take such long showers you could have gone to the pool, yesterday.”

Fuck you. The reason I couldn’t go to the pool yesterday was because I was actually WORKING in the Business Center in the hotel lobby, doing class prep AND emailing material to that crazy OSD bitch. I don’t say anything though.

Fuck the pool. Let’s go.

10:30-11:00 - B. calls the Front Desk and tells me that although checkout is actually at 11:00, “ we can stay until 11:30.” Nope. Let’s go. B. then suggests I sit by the pool while he loads ALL of our luggage and our bikes…why would I do that? I have MY bags and MY bike and I’m supposed to task him with loading MY things? That’s not my style. I’m over the pool. I just want to go home.

-We make several trips to the car, including wheeling our bikes to the parking lot.

11:00-11:30- We load our bags and B. reinstalls the bike rack, then accidentally loads my bike on the rack backwards. My bike has to be pulled off and remounted all over again. I try to help but there’s not much I can do. It’s hot outside.

11:30-1:00-We finally leave. I’m home by 1:00.

1:00-2:00-B. pulls my suitcase out of the car, unloads my bike, and leaves. I bring in all my bags, store my bike, unpack everything, and start a load of laundry. I put my suitcase on top of the rack in the laundry room.

2:00-3:00-Kitchen duty. I store my takeout food and my remaining snacks. The dog is happy to see me. I do the dishes, ready my coffee for tomorrow, and pack my lunch bag.

3:00-3:30-I take the dog for a walk.

3:30-4:30-I water my plants.

-4:30-5:30-Dinner and I read Foreverland.

-5:30-8:30-I grade papers; and

-8:30-9:45-upload a blog post; Then

9:45-10:00-I update Canvas for my Catholic high school class tomorrow.

10:00-11:00-Another blog post; and

11:00-11:30-I check headlines.

11:30-12:30-Nighttime routine and bed. I set my alarm for 5:30.
