Day 38 - LA County enters yellow tier

How to clean your garage door…

How to clean your garage door…

6/9/21. Wednesday

9:00–9:30 - It’s unclear, but B. might have secured a contractor to stain my garage floor and it’s possible they are coming over this morning.  You never know with these contractors so I’m up early, just in case, and I check my phone.  B. texts me to call him and when we talk he says it’s a no-go for the contractor, but he’s able to come by around 2:00 after he has lunch with his son-in-law.

I weigh 100.5 pounds – no exercise in two days is probably the culprit.

9:30-10:00 - I go downstairs to greet the animal.  She’s still asleep on the couch so I rub her tummy three times to wake her up.  She grabs her tennis ball and we go outside so she can go potty. The workers are at my neighbor’s house…doing what, I don’t know…when will they finish? The dog does her business and we return inside. Coffee for me – pepper-jack cheese for her. I go upstairs.

10:00-11:30 – I read Women’s Work.

11:30-12:30 – Wipe down my bathroom counters and clean my toilet. Wipe down my nightstand tables. I did a load of laundry a few days ago, so I fold it and put it away. Take out the trash. Check the downstairs toilet. Unpack my Wine.com delivery.

12:30-1:30 – Shower. Lotion. Covid-19 uniform. Light make-up.  I listen to Be Wealthy and Smart and The Daily.

1:30-2:00 – I create another green wire trellis using the screws B. placed near my fountain in the backyard.

2:00-6:00 – B. arrives so he can take a picture of my passport and collect the $600 down payment for our Ireland trip in November.  He takes a picture of my vaccination card, too – we have to show proof of vaccination for this trip.  This is a group tour – 32 people are going – and more information to follow.

-The metal vent, in the ceiling, where the air conditioner is, collapsed and is hanging by it’s hinges.  I ask B. if he can fix it and he thinks he or one of his contractor’s can do it. I also ask if he has a washer for the new hose I bought – he says yes and will bring one in the coming days.

-Since B. is here, we decide to watch a movie.  I’m certain he’ll like The Dry so I get it started and bring him a 7&7.

I make a huge salad for myself, using the salad that B. bought for me last week as the base, and then add tomatoes and feta cheese.  B. doesn’t mind that I’m eating in front of him because he just had a hamburger at Cousins.

We watch The Dry - B. likes it.  Midway through the movie I pour myself a glass of champagne and marvel at the fact that I can watch a movie and engage in “day-drinking” on this Wednesday afternoon, all because I’m retired.

B. leaves.

6:00-7:30 – I read Women’s Work.

7:30-8:00 – I take the dog for a walk and listen to The Slow Home Podcast.

8:30-10:30 – Gardening. I sweep the patio and trim most of my plants, especially the Bank’s rosebush in the corner, near the fountain.  My zucchini seedlings have taken root and are doing well near the window, which means it’s time to transplant. I move them to a large pot outside – we’ll see how they do. I water all of my plants and listen to the Culture Gabfest, The Organize 365 Podcast and Fresh Air.

10:30-12:20 – Continue working on the garage project.  The interior of the garage door is filthy and needs to be hand-scrubbed, even though I pressure-washed it a few weeks ago.  I fill a bucket with dish washing soap, grab my ladder and an industrial sponge used for car washes, and scrub each panel by hand, moving up and down the ladder. I lug my watering can up the ladder so I can rinse the soap off.  I’m gloved and double-masked, but even so, the garage door is filthy-dirty and there are dead bugs in the crevices. This is so disgusting! I listen to The Fall Line and By The Book.

12:20-1:00 – Transition time.  I read a Money Diary and have apples and almond butter in preparation for my work out. L. materializes and we talk about her day.  She asks if I want to watch the Bikram documentary.  I almost never say no to L., especially if she wants to spend time with me, but I absolutely have to get this workout in – I don’t like to let more than 2 days go by without working out.  Ideally, I try to work out every day, but some days I’m just too tired, which is no excuse. I turn L. down, telling her I’m good to go for the Bikram documentary tomorrow.

1:00-2:00 – I do an Insanity Max Interval Circuit.  With Insanity Max, there are more reps and it’s a longer work-out.  I do the best I can, but still have to stop and catch my breath pretty regularly.  At least I get back into the mix.

2:00-3:30 – I continue logging monthly expenditures for my budget project, then order new lights for the garage, reserve the rental car through Enterprise for mine and L.’s upcoming Vegas trip, and order paper towels, Simple Green, and a magenta ink cartridge at Walmart.com. I listen to The Weeds.

3:30-4:00 – Kitchen duty.  Take the dog out. Lock up.

4:00-4:45 – Nighttime routine. Bed.  I listen to What A Day.
