Day 42-Governor Newsom reinstates the mask mandate in California
This just in…new information on boosters from the CDC. Before you read on, keep in mind that I have had just one J&J jab. Here we go:
A third shot of either Moderna or Pfizer reduced the chance of hospitalization by 90% compared to a person who is unvaccinated. People with just two shots have seen a big decline in protection against Omicron, particularly if it has been 6 months after the second shot. At the 6-month point, protection against hospitalization drops to 57%.
According to the CDC – which is an incompetent, inept agency – the boosters gave the greatest amount of protection to people age 65 and older. Only around 40% of Americans have bothered to get boosted. One-third of eligible people older than 65-years-old have NOT received a booster.
There is no mention of booster effectiveness for the 17 million Americans who received the one-and-done J&J. The research conducted in the most recent CDC study only addresses people who received the 2-dose vaccine. Only 870,000 people out of 17 million received the J&J booster. Who are these 870,000 people? They must be living under a rock. The CDC disavowed the J&J vaccine on 12/16/21 after 54 people [out of 17 million] developed blood clots…I guess the 870,000 J&J booster recipients never got the memo, OR were boosted before the CDC rejected the J&J vaccine. It should be noted that the CDC approved the J&J vaccine when they had the exact same information over a year ago, but they waited until last month to say it sucks.
Put this next fun fact in your back pocket for a minute before you read my Spoiler Alert: “In the 3rd quarter of 2021, the vaccine only generated $500 million of J&J’s $23 billion in revenue.” You can guess where this is going… Spoiler Alert: on 2/9/22, J&J quietly ceases production of its Covid-19 vaccine. Only a few news outlets even bother to run the story. The J&J vaccine is officially dead.
1/26/22. Wednesday
8:45-9:30- My body aches, as usual, so I take two Advil and wait for it to take effect.
9:30-10:30 – I drag myself out of bed and fold all of the towels L. and I used to mop up the water from the flooded kitchen yesterday and that I washed and dried last night. Then, I go downstairs to say good morning to the dog. She’s still asleep on the couch and rolls over on her back when she sees me. I sit next to her, on her little blanket, for kisses and cuddles until I spot tiny pieces of dried poop on the blanket!
Usually dogs don’t shit where they sleep, but this looks like the dog simply couldn’t be bothered to go outside and pooped in her own bed! In all seriousness, I think the dog might be depressed… We go outside and I watch her chase the birds away from my fountain…I can’t stand it when she does that. I stand around, waiting for her to go potty and she finally does. Return inside and coffee for me; turkey for her.
-I return my Xmas plates and bowls to the top shelf of the cupboard and move my regular plates to the bottom shelf, where they belong. Then, I unload and load the dishwasher and sweep the downstairs.
-I put ice in a bag and return upstairs.
10:30-11:45-Shower. Spa day. Lotion. Covid-19 uniform. Make-up. I ice my eyes in the shower.
12:00-12:30 – My parents arrive to take L. out to lunch bearing all kinds of goodies!! Books, coupons, champagne…how nice! We talk for awhile and my parents and L. leave.
12:30-1:00 – The roofer arrives to give me a bid on the section of the kitchen ceiling that is falling in as a result of the excessive rains we’ve had lately. He actually goes up on the roof to check the skylights where the water damage is the worst. He quotes me a price of $2700. I negotiate it down to $2500 cash, but he won’t budge any further. great.
1:30-10:30 – B. arrives and we pick up BBQ chicken, salad, and mashed potatoes from Rattlers; then we have lunch at his house, talk politics, and watch The Servant. B. asks how I’m feeling and I say, “Um, I think I have Long Covid…” We go back to watching The Servant.
B. drives me home. L. is spending the night at her boyfriend’s house.
10:30-11:00 – I get partially ready for bed.
11:00-1:00 – I spend the next couple of hours curating and then settling on four podcasts addressing Long Covid that I email to B.
1:30-2:00-I finish my nighttime routine. Bed.
