Day 5-Monkey Pox is the new pandemic

Monkey Pox is racist…

It’s all about Monkey Pox again. WHO’s Director/General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus [Dr. Grub], announced that the WHO is going to change the name “Monkey Pox” to something else “due to racial connotations.” In other words, although not explicitly stated, the word “monkey” is a racial slur that has been used to stigmatize black people in the past.

Really?  I don’t think anybody thought there was a problem with the name “Monkey Pox” EXCEPT the stupid WHO president.  Is that because he’s black and suffering from his own self-esteem and race identification issues? By making this statement, Dr. Ghebreyesus, YOU are now stigmatizing the black community because guess what? NOBODY CARED until you brought this bogus line of reasoning to everyone’s attention.

The label “Monkey Pox” canNOT be equated with the racial slurs and hate crimes that ensued after Trump and other white supremacists and racists began referring to Covid 19 as the “Asian Flu”; the “Kung Flu”; and the “China Flu.” Re-labeling Covid 19 with these terms was appalling! BUT, I haven’t heard ONE person say, “Monkey Pox was caused by black men - that’s why the word “Monkey” is in the title.” Correlating Monkey Pox with the black community NEVER ONCE donned on me because most people can actually use the word “monkey’ in conversation, should it arise, without that word calling up racial overtones.  The fact that this is a point of contention for the WHO president, that he is “wringing his hands” over the word “monkey”, means that HE’s the racist.

Dr. Grub has his head up his ass.  Uh-oh. Am I somehow stigmatizing gay men because I used this expression? Let’s apply Dr. Grub’s stupid argument to the gay community for a minute. I support the gay community whole heartedly, but the majority of people who contract and transmit Monkey Pox are gay men. Is the word “Monkey” somehow disparaging to gay men? No. Then, is it disparaging to Blacks? No.

Now if Monkey Pox was called the “Fag Flu”…that would be a problem…

8/8/22. Monday

10:00-10:45-The trash truck wakes up the dog and she starts barking. I drag myself out of bed and we go downstairs so she can go potty. Return inside and I make coffee and do the dishes.

10:45-12:30-I grade three Extra Credit essay assignments.

12:30-1:30-L. returns from my parents’ house and we spend the next hour trying to load the Audio Lecture into the Canvas shell, but it still doesn’t work. L. suggests that we email the Audio Lecture to the students instead. I do that and it works! It’s not ideal, but at least they can access the Audio lecture.

1:30-2:30-I post course content. Then, L helps me design my itinerary for my Bacerra Ritz Carlton trip. She also makes a dinner reservation for me via Open Table. I have a small bowl of L.’s rigatoni for lunch.

-I check email and respond to a few students.

3:00-4:00-More packing. After, I take a shower. Lotion. Garden Society Member attire.

4:00-5:00-I leave for the gas station - gas is at $5.25 now - and I pay for an automatic car wash at the gas station.

5:00-5:30-I buy some champagne at BevMo.

5:30-6:30-I drive to Sprouts for Lara bars and apples

6:30-7:30 - Home and I put everything away then vacuum the interior of my car.

7:30-8:15 - I grade the last extra credit assignment. Yay!

8:15-9:00-I take the dog for a walk.

9:00-10:00-I water my plants.

10:00-11:30-I scan the remaining papers, post the extra credit grades, and email the students my edits. The papers jam continuously as I scan them.

In between, I log my receipts for July and August.

11:30-12:30-I take Attendance for my classes and put the finishing touches on my online Syllabus for Specialty Class 1A at College No. 1.

12:30-2:00-I tally up the Discussion Board assignments from Sunday. This involves placing tick marks next to every student’s name for each post, then counting them manually so I can log that student’s grade in the online gradebook.

-I post course content for tomorrow.

2:00-3:00-I have every intention of going to the last hike of the season and then out to breakfast with everyone tomorrow but as it gets later and later I’m not so sure. Kitchen duty and I pack my lunch bag and ready my coffee.

3:00-3:45-Nighttime routine. Sunless tanning. Bed.
