Day 24-BA5 takes the lead
7/16/22. Friday
8:30-9:30 - I had originally planned to hike the Ventura Botanical Gardens today, and then go to the beach, but I can’t get it together so change of plans.
8:30-9:30-I wake up with another headache, but this time I take two Advil before I even get out of bed and wait for it to kick in. I take the dog downstairs so she can go potty. Cheese for her; coffee for me.
I report to my office, post course content, and respond to student emails.
9:30-11:00-When I’m finished with class prep, I spend this next block of time placing an order for various items from Walmart. I order a charger, three miniature spray bottles, charger converters for traveling, Justin’s almond butter, Skintimate shaving cream, diaper wipes, black and cyan ink cartridges, and a book called Life Makeover. It’s hard to find some of the specific items I need and it takes awhile to locate and place them in my cart. I listen to The Daily and What a Day. I open a shopping cart with Amazon but don’t pull the trigger until I reach $100 for free shipping.
Still not feeling well. Is it Long Covid? Maybe it’s because I haven’t eaten anything yet. I think I have BA5…
11:00-12:00-I sit in the shower and ice my eyes. Lotion. Same outfit as yesterday - shorts and my Audrey Hepburn T-shirt. I put my hair in a ponytail and put on makeup.
12:00-12:30-I call Eat Real Cafe and order almond butter strawberry toast, a grilled tuna fish sandwich, and a protein bar, to go. I pick up my order; then
12:30-1:30-I drive to the Huntington.
1:30-4:00-I walk around the grounds and tour the Art Gallery. The museums are finally open again!
The Huntington was as bad as my community pool [remember when my HOA shut it down and removed every single piece of furniture - no tables, no chairs, no lounge chairs? Residents had to make reservations to use OUR OWN community pool, and the HOA posted a Security Guard to force us out exactly 50 minutes after we arrived. We also had to bring our own portable seating! Even in the throes of the pandemic, this response was absolutely radical and over-the-top. There was not one single pool in the entire City who responded in this way and I complained about it, bitterly, in my blog, as it was happening. Early on, society figured out that we couldn’t contract Covid from surfaces and we were safer outside. HOWEVER, by early 2022, the Huntington galleries were still closed and patio furniture for my community pool had still not returned. It was ridiculous.]
Anyway, the Huntington has finally opened it’s indoor spaces and I see some beautiful objects today, as well as sections of the Art Gallery that I’ve never been in before.
4:00-4:30- While on grounds, I stop for a moment and order two scoops of sorbet: one scoop of pink grapefruit and one scoop of mango. “Dumbass” puts each scoop in its own cup - when I bring it back to the table, it looks like I’m eating ice cream with an invisible person. I eat both scoops and leave.
4:30-6:00-Traffic is bad because it’s Friday gridlock. Treating Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as work days and the regular days of the week as weekends is probably the best solution moving forward.
6:00-8:00-Home and I finish the book Red Zone, then take a nap.
8:00-10:00-I go to Bev Mo; Home Goods for picture frames; Sprouts for some staples; and gas. While I was on vacation, gas dropped to $5.90 a gallon.
10:00-11:15-I put everything away and prep a lunch bag for tomorrow.
11:15-12:30-L. surfaces and we talk about her day. She is feeling much better and I’m probably no longer contagious, so we end the self-quarantine in the house.
12:30-2:00-I finish my lunch bag prep then water all of my plants.
2:00-2:45-I purchased eight picture frames at Home Goods to hang on my “stair-landing” wall, which is different from my “art gallery” wall. I take the eight best pictures of L. and I and put them in the frames that I purchased.
2:45-3:15-Nighttime routine. Bed.
