Day 30 - Los Angeles lifts its vaccine mandate. A vax card is no longer needed.
Corbevax is the new, latest Covid vaccine. Haven’t heard of it? That’s because it’s being distributed to “shithole” countries outside of the US. It was developed in Houston, Texas, but is now manufactured by the Indian pharmaceutical company Biological E. The school kids in Chennai, India, are the first guinea pigs to receive this sketchy jab.
Corbevax uses yeast to copy a piece of the corona virus' spike protein and create a vaccine. Yeast? This is why you’ll only see Corbevax in third world countries. The rest of the industrialized nations wouldn’t be caught dead injecting “yeast” of all things. By the way, it’s politically incorrect to refer to “shithole” countries as “third world.” The new word is now “developing.”
Corbevax is being manufactured in Hyderabad, India, at a cost of $1.90 a dose. The company can make 100 million doses a month. By contrast, a dose of Pfizer costs the government $19.50.
Corbevax, you say? After today, this blog will be the first AND last time you ever hear of this vaccine.
4/29/22. Friday
7:00-7:15-I’m awake, but I lie in bed for transition time.
7:15-7:30-I go downstairs to say good morning to the animal. She’s still asleep, so I rub her tummy four times, and coax her to go outside. We report to the backyard and I stand around, waiting for the dog to do her business. Return inside and coffee for me; cheese for her. I go upstairs.
7:30-8:30-I sit in the shower, drink my coffee, and ice my eyes while listening to Today Explained. Lotion and I put on my biking uniform: black leggings, tank top, and bike shoes.
8:30-8:45-I pack my bike bag, slice a pear, ad add it to my bag.
9:00-12:00- B. arrives, puts air in my tires, and we go on a bike ride. We take the paseos to Copper Hill and then onto Avenida Rancho Tesoro where we come across a sign that says Tesoro Adobe Historic Park. I’ve never heard of it, but about a mile up the hill is a miniature park built right into the middle of the Tesoro Del Valle housing tract and featuring the historic, adobe, hacienda buildings of former actor Harry Carey. The park is lovely and we set our bikes down and explore, walking along a miniature trail. We read all the placards, sit by the water feature, and eat our pears.
The neighborhood, itself, is heavily gated and we can’t get in, but a nice couple opens the gate and we emerge into a beautiful park with incredible amenities. There’s a lake, a bike path that we take around the lake, tennis courts, and basketball courts. We discover that the actual housing tract is across the street. This community is so beautiful…what a secret, hidden gem that we came across!
-B. and I head back, but end up taking the wrong paseo. They all feed into each other so we eventually make it home.
12:00-3:00-B. and I get Starbucks and donuts, sit outside at my patio table, and talk politics; then
3:00-5:00-B. drills holes in my hanging pallet and installs three mason jars. He also hangs a mirror in the center of the palette. This is harder than it sounds, but B. Is able to complete the project.
5:00-7:00-I suggest we order Umaichi Ramen for dinner, so we make our selections and call it in. We leave to pick up the food and, en route, B. drives me by the house where he and his first wife used to live. Eventually, we arrive at Umaichi Ramen. When I enter the restaurant, it’s as if I’ve been transported to the early days of the pandemic. Staff are masked and every booth is surrounded by a plexiglass divider. There’s also a small desk directly in front of the entrance, enclosed in pexiglass, where we pick up our order so as not to expose anyone to Omicron, although everyone has been infected by this point. It’s pretty remarkable.
We bring the food home and it’s excellent. I get the Sayonara Raman and the shrimp-fried rice - both are incredible. B. and I watch an episode of Bad Vegan.
7:00-8:00-We watch another episode of Bad Vegan.
8:00-9:00-B hangs out for awhile and then leaves.
9:00-10:00-Kitchen duty and I ready my coffee.
10:00-11:00 - Nighttime routine. Bed.
